Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Billy's Place!

Below is a list of volunteer positions available, please

take a peek to see what interests you!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Like all non-profit organizations, a Board of Directors governs Billy's Place.  Board terms are one or two years.  The board meets monthly and is very involved in the development and growth of the organization.  We ask board members to attend 8 of 10 monthly meetings each year, observe one grief support group night a year and attend at least one of four Billy’s Place family/community events. Board meetings are the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The board does not meet in July and December.
Prerequisites: Previous board experience is helpful, but not required.  Billy’s Place encourages millennials seeking experience to apply as well.  The most important factor is a desire to serve.

CHECK-IN HELPER
This volunteer is responsible for setting up the welcome table, managing registration list and distributing name tags for families and volunteers. Volunteers are needed the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month and they arrive by 5:15 p.m. The check-in helper welcomes volunteers and families by signing them in and warmly greeting them. After, you will put away your table and supplies. We ask for a commitment of 2 ½ hours per month and a commitment for one year.
Prerequisites: 16 and older.  A warm and genuine personality is important. Families may be reserved at first and it’s important they feel safe and not overwhelmed.

DINNER HELPER
Billy’s Place provides an evening meal for families. Dinner helpers arrive every 2nd and 4th Monday at 5:00 p.m. Volunteer can serve one or both evenings. This person is responsible for setting up dinner supplies, welcoming families, assisting during the meal and then clean-up.  We ask for a commitment of 2 ½ hours per month and a commitment of one year.
Prerequisites: 18 and older.  A person with initiative and who likes to engage with families in a non-threatening, genuine and casual atmosphere.

SUPPLY HELPER
The supply helper should have a knack for organization. This volunteer will check group night supplies in and out as well as keeping the supply room neat and organized.  The supply helper serves on the 2nd or 4th Monday of each month (or both) and arrives by 6:00 p.m.  A three hour commitment per month, with a one year commitment is requested.
Prerequisites: 16 or older.  A person who likes organization of great for this role.

SMALL GROUP FACILITATOR
Small group facilitators walk alongside grieving children or adults. Volunteers serve with the “littles,” “middles,” “teens,” or “adults” providing families a safe environment during support group nights in a small group setting.

Groups are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.  Volunteers are asked to serve either one or both nights. Facilitators arrive by 5:45 p.m. and serve until 9:00 p.m. Facilitators are provided a curriculum prior to each group night. Curriculum is age-appropriate and includes art, music, dialogue, games and crafts. New volunteers are paired with experienced facilitators.

All volunteers attend a comprehensive training designed to help prepare them for the year ahead. You will learn many tools to help not only our families, though yourself in this journey.  It is recommended volunteers have an established support system (personal and/or professional). Consistency in volunteers is very important to Billy’s Place and the families we serve. Continuing education of three hours per year is required to further enhance your skills.

Billy’s Place accepts volunteer applications on an ongoing basis. Approximately one month prior to the next scheduled training, we will contact you about space availability for the next training.

Decisions are made based on Billy’s Place current needs and applicants’ availability and schedule flexibility. We require a $20 deposit when you commit to attending. The full training fee is $40 per person. Please plan to pay the remaining $20 on the first day of training. After the training, and if you are selected to be a facilitator, please note that a background check will be done before you begin volunteering.

Training includes: security check, Billy’s Place T-shirt and lunch.

Current fingerprint clearance cards are accepted and $20 will be waived from the training fee.

Prerequisites: 18 and older (16 and older will be considered based on background, experience and maturity).  If you are navigating recent death loss (within 2 years) we recommend waiting to volunteer.  Your open heart, life experiences, caring support and desire to help grieving families can positively impact a child or adult's journey.

FRIEND-RAISING
Volunteers assist with fundraising events and securing in-kind resources for Billy’s Place. Volunteers are also needed to secure sponsors which help underwrite direct costs.  Special event volunteers help with all facets of family events. Responsibilities include helping plan event details, set-up/decor, registration, hospitality, clean-up etc.
Current events include Hike for Hope, Balloon Release, Butterfly Release and
Candlelight Vigil. Opportunities allow for families and community members to gather, support one another and honor their loved ones.
